This week, we were happy to spend every day at and exploring around our Forest School site. A highlight recently has been finding a giant snow pile that is much more like a mountain. One day we even got to spend nearly the whole day there!
At the Mountain, there are many possibilities for play. This week we were firemen, putting out fires. We sat, dug, climbed, and slid. We were pirates fighting sea monsters and vampires running away from werewolves. We used our tools - shovels, hammers, snow saws, and "ice picks" (also known as a garden trowel) - for many different projects.
We were also excited to use our tarps for everything from a bakery, to hide outs, to sheltered snack spots, homes for dogs, and lastly... for sledding!
The mountain was also the perfect spot to take a rest and drink some hot chocolate.
While the mountain was a favourite place to visit, there was still lots to do at our Forest School site. Earlier in the week, when the snow was perfectly sticky, we worked hard to make the biggest snow person we could!
And of course, before we could enter our break for the Holidays, we wanted to celebrate Winter Solstice and the return of the Sun. We were grateful for Esther's work making us an obstacle course, which ended in a special bow and arrow activity. The preschoolers from our other program were also able to join us for the Solstice fun!
A very happy Solstice and Holiday Season from all of us at Forest Nursery School! ☀️
